What is Cupping?

Cupping (also called Hijamah or Hijama in Arabic) is a form of Complementary Medicine. Cupping therapy, also known as Hijama or wet cupping is a treatment used to detox the body by removing harmful toxins. The build-up of these toxins over time can cause the body’s system to be imbalanced which can result in pain ailments/ diseases. Hijama cupping therapy if performed correctly can help to re-balance your body’s natural state without any serious side effects.

There are 4 types of Cupping

Dry Cupping

This is the process of using a vacuum on different areas of the body to gather the blood in that area without making incisions.

Massage Cupping

Similarly to dry cupping, no incisions are made, but plenty of oil is applied to the skin to allow movement of the cups.

Wet Cupping

This is the process of applying cups at various points on the body and making small incisions to remove ‘harmful’ blood which lies just beneath the surface of the skin.

Flash Cupping

After we exhaust air in the cup with fire, we attach cup on the skin surface, then quickly withdraw cup, repeat this step for 30 to 50 times until there is the red colour on the place of cupping and patient feels warming sensation. This technique can get a good function to promote blood circulation. This method is commonly used for the invasion of external cold and wind, muscle atrophy.

Our services

CUPPING (Hijama) Ladies only Hijama clinic

At AL-HIJAMA we prefer to practice wet cupping. We use a modern version of cupping (wet) uses a  pump to create the vacuum inside the cup. We use medical-grade silicone cups. These are pliable enough to be moved from place to place on the skin and produce a massage like effect.

During wet cupping, a mild suction is created using a cup that is left in place for about 3 minutes. The practitioner then removes the cup and uses a small scalpel to make superficial skin incisions. Then performs a second suction to draw out a small quantity of blood. Hijama cupping therapy removes harmful substances and toxins from the body to promote healing and well being.

MASSAGE

Swedish massage is the most common and best-known type of massage in the West. If it’s your first time or you don’t get massage very often, Swedish massage is the perfect massage for you. If you want deeper work and can tolerate more pressure, even momentary discomfort, to get relief from muscle pain, it’s better to book a deep tissue massage, which is another form of Swedish massage. Swedish massage and other types of therapeutic massage are performed by trained, licensed massage therapists. A Swedish massage can be slow and gentle, or vigorous and bracing, depending on the therapist’s personal style and what the customer wants.

What Happens During A Swedish Massage

In all Swedish massage, the therapist lubricates the skin with massage oil and performs various massage strokes. These movements warm up the muscle tissue, releasing tension and gradually breaking up muscle “knots” or adhered tissues, called adhesions. Swedish massage promotes relaxation, among other health benefits.

Before the massage, the therapist should ask you about any injuries or other conditions that  she should know about. Things you would want tell a therapist include areas of tightness or pain, allergies, and conditions like pregnancy. You can also tell them up front if you have a preference for light or firm pressure. It’s best not to get a massage if you are ill.

THREADING
Threading is a technique of removing hair practiced since time immemorial in the Middle East, South Asia and South-East Asia and now becoming popular in the West. Threading involves twisting a thread of pure cotton between the fingers and around rows of hair to pull them out of their roots. It is commonly used by women at home, or in beauty parlours, for shaping their eyebrows and removing other facial and body hair.

Fast Way to Remove Hair:Threading removes many hairs in one go, in contrast to tweezing or plucking, where hairs are removed one by one; so, it is a faster and less painful method of removing hair. For example, threading a set of eyebrows usually takes around 15 minutes and threading the upper lip takes around 5-7 minutes by a skilled professional, whereas plucking the eyebrows can take anywhere from 30-45 minutes.

FACIALS
A facial is one of the best ways to take care of your skin, especially when it’s given by an experienced, knowledgeable aesthetician. A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger. A facial is the second most popular spa treatment after a massage. A facial works best when it is part of an on-going program of skin care.

The Basic Steps of a Facial

A facial should begin with a consultation. The aesthetician might have you fill out a form that has questions about your skin concerns, your diet, how much water you drink, drugs and supplements you take, and products you are currently using. This can affect your skin and what kind of treatments she recommends.

Cleansing: After wrapping your hair with a towel or headband, the aesthetician begins a facial with a thorough cleansing, using cotton pads, aesthetician wipes or sponges.

Skin Analysis:The aesthetician covers your eyes and looks at your skin through a brightly lit magnifying lamp. He or she is determining your basic skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive or normal) and skin conditions (acne, blackheads, whiteheads, aging, sun-damage, dehydration, etc.) The aesthetician then chooses the appropriate products and treatments, and consults with you about what he or she sees and recommends.

Steam: Most facials use a machine that directs a thin vapour of warm steam to your face. This is relaxing and helps softens up any blackheads and whiteheads to be extracted. If you have very sensitive skin, the aesthetician may not use steam.

Exfoliation using a mechanical or chemical exfoliant: Mechanical exfoliants have a gritty texture that rubs away the surface dead skin cells. This type of exfoliation usually happens during the steam. Chemical exfoliation uses enzymes and acids to loosen the bond between skin cells. A gentle enzyme treatment can be done during the steam. Stronger chemical peels which vary in intensity, can be a stand-alone treatment or part of the facial. It is not generally an “upgrade” and done in a series. It is not done with steam.

Extractions: This is the removal of blackheads or whiteheads if you want it and need it. People have different pain tolerance for extractions. They can be uncomfortable, especially on thin or ruddy skin. Extractions can cause broken capillaries and discoloration if done improperly.

Facial massage using classic strokes like effleurage to both relax you and stimulate your skin and facial muscles.
A facial mask targeted to your skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature) and condition. During the facial, the aesthetician should stay in the room and give you a scalp massage or some other service. If they leave the room to let you “relax,” don’t go back.

Final application of toner, serums, moisturizer and sunscreen if it’s daytime.

Advice on home skin care: The aesthetician will tell you how she thinks you can take better care of your skin and recommend products. Some people feel uncomfortable with this step because it involve product recommendations, but it is part of her job. You aren’t obligated to buy anything, and he or she shouldn’t be too pushy or make you feel bad about your skin.

Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure that removes the top layer of your skin. Improves fine lines and wrinckles. WAXING
Waxing is a form of semi-permanent hair removal which removes the hair from the root. New hair will not grow back in the previously waxed area for four to six weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, pubic area (called bikini waxing), legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet. There are many types of waxing suitable for removing unwanted hair.

Strip waxing (soft wax) is accomplished by spreading a wax thinly over the skin. A cloth or paper strip is applied and pressed firmly, adhering the strip to the wax and the wax to the skin. The strip is then quickly ripped against the direction of hair growth, as parallel as possible to the skin to avoid trauma to the skin (i.e., bruising, broken capillaries, ingrown hairs caused by hair follicle trauma and lifting of skin). This removes the wax along with the hair. There are many benefits to waxing versus other forms of hair removal. It is an effective method to remove large amounts of hair at one time.It is a long-lasting method. Hair in waxed areas will not grow back for two to eight weeks. There are do-it-yourself waxing supplies, but they may be difficult to use on oneself on some areas on the body, why not let the professional do it for you.
